To Dance Beneath a Diamond Sky
The songs I’ve listened to and sung over the years have always painted pictures in my head.
You might wonder what Penhill in winter got to do with Sweet Baby James? Its the memory of a cold but beautiful journey:
The first of December was covered with snow
and so were the Berkshires from Stockbridge to Boston
I’ve never painted the mill where I started my working life but looking at the Hebden Bridge mills brings back the boredom:
Millwork ain't easy
Millwork ain't hard
Millwork, it ain't nothing
But an awful boring job
I'm waiting for a daydream
To take me through the morning
And put me in my coffee break
Where I can have a sandwich
And remember
It would be lovely if seeing these pictures sent people away humming the songs or, better, thinking of the songs that paint pictures in their heads.
